9 May 2001.

Power Supply for BWO tube has been shipped to Space Research Organization Netherlands, www.sron.nl. This PS will be used in HIFI Science Instruments for Herschel equipment development. Herschel is cornerstone number 4 (CS4) in the European Space Agency science project `Horizon 2000'. It will be implemented together with the Planck mission (selected as M3) as a single project.
HIFI is a very high resolution heterodyne spectrometer. It offers velocity resolution in the range 0.3-300 km/s, combined with low noise detection using superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS) and hot electron bolometer (HEB) mixers. HIFI is not an maging instrument, it provides a single pixel on the sky.

See Mr. L.de Jong (L.de.Jong@sron.rug.nl) from SRON and and Mr Philip Ivanov from ELVA-1 Millimeter Wave Division at SRON facility during successful delivery trial of the equipment.
Read the Power Supply Operation Manual for more technical details (PDF, 556KB).
